WORKING CASE FILE

Just 3

Can a strict limit of three priorities improve daily choices?

A private, working application built to turn one 90-day outcome into three deliberate actions each day.

01 / THE SIGNAL

What kept happening?

Long task lists make activity visible but often conceal the choices that matter. Just 3 is a personal execution system designed to make prioritisation unavoidable.

  • A growing list can make every task look equally important.
  • The cost of choosing one priority over another remains hidden.
  • A useful system needed to guide the day without becoming another system to maintain.

02 / THE RESPONSE

What was built to test it?

  1. 01

    Choose three

Limit the visible commitments to three consequential priorities.

  2. 02

    Name the consequence

Connect each priority to what changes if it moves.

  3. 03

    Keep it visible

Return to the same small decision surface during the day.

  4. 04

    Review honestly

Notice what displaced the priorities and whether that trade-off was justified.

02B / THE WORKING SYSTEM

Three decisions.
One daily rhythm.

PRIVATE BUILD · CURRENTLY IN USE

The interface is deliberately smaller than a conventional task manager. It keeps one outcome visible, limits active projects, and asks for one action in each of three categories.

01 / MAKE THE TRADE-OFF VISIBLE

The day begins with a limit.

One action must build something, one must open a relationship or opportunity, and one must advance an existing commitment. New work can still appear, but it has to compete with a visible choice.

BUILD
Create an asset, capability, or piece of work that did not exist.
OPEN A DOOR
Start the conversation, ask, introduction, or proposal that could create possibility.
ADVANCE
Move an existing bet through its next meaningful constraint.
02 / ACTIVE BETS

Choose what earns a slot.

No more than three projects remain active. Pausing, completing, or cancelling one frees the capacity for another.

Opportunity Vault page for saving and evaluating ideas without interrupting current priorities
03 / OPPORTUNITY VAULT

Protect focus without losing ideas.

Promising possibilities are captured, reviewed, researched, and validated before they are allowed to compete for active effort.

04 / DOORS

Treat possibility as part of the work.

Asks, introductions, conversations, proposals, follow-ups, wins, and recorded value sit in a relationship pipeline rather than disappearing inside a task list.

05 / REVIEW

Turn action into a decision record.

The weekly view shows what moved, what stalled, whether doors were opened, and what decision should shape the next week. The summary is generated only from stored activity.

03 / THE EVIDENCE LEDGER

What can be said—today?

The language stays proportional to the evidence.

SUPPORTED

What is known

  • A working personal execution system exists.
  • The constraint of three is actively being used.
  • The system makes daily trade-offs more visible to the person using it.
HELD BACK

What is not claimed

  • A universal productivity improvement.
  • Suitability for every role or working style.
  • A measured increase in completed work.
NEEDED NEXT

Evidence to look for

  • Which priorities repeatedly survive or disappear during a working week.
  • Whether the constraint changes how competing requests are handled.
  • What users retain after the novelty of the system fades.

04 / OPEN QUESTIONS

The case is still moving.

These questions determine what should happen next and what a stronger claim would require.

  1. 01

When does a limit of three create focus, and when does it oversimplify?

  2. 02

What is the smallest review habit that keeps the system useful?

  3. 03

Which signals would show that daily choices are improving?
